Litigation and Arbitriation
The litigation department at Aequitas Legal acts in all matters involving actual or potential court disputes in the High Courts, Courts of Magistrates or other tribunals. The Firm represents its local and international clients in all types of civil and commercial disputes. Our lawyers are experienced in a variety of sectors that include real estate and construction disputes, debt collection, employment and labour matters, commercial and corporate issues, landlord and tenant matters and contractual or pre-contractual liability amongst others.
Members of our Litigation Department are also familiar with alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Arbitration is one such alternative, whether the dispute is on a domestic or international level. Aequitas Legal strongly believes that arbitration often provides a more cost-effective solution to disputes than traditional litigation and is also a quicker alternative to formal court proceedings. The Firm advocates in arbitration ranging in a wide variety of matters including, commercial disputes and major construction projects and has also represented one of our clients in the first International Arbitration to be held in Malta.
Aequitas Legal also seeks to promote Mediation as another form of alternative dispute resolution. Though not yet a common practice in Malta, except in the resolution of Family Law disputes, we strongly believe that mediation gives the parties full control of the resolution of the dispute before them and strongly promotes mediation at an earlier stage in the dispute.
